Dr. Lucy Njue

Dr. Lucy Njue is a Lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology. She received her Master’s degree in Microbiology and Doctoral degrees in Public health at Kenyatta University and University of Nairobi respectively. She has been involved in teaching Food Science, Food Nutrition and Food Technology related modules in Universities and TVET colleges. She is also involved in research and innovations activities.
Dr. Lucy Njue is passionate about the science of food, particularly related to the improvement of traditional processes to address hunger, Food Safety and Quality, and finding solutions to the challenges of food insecurity. Most of her research work is basically on product development and use of natural products to control food hazards and emerging modern techniques. She has collaborated and actively collaborating with different researchers in this regard and also mentoring the much younger generation of food scientists/technologists. She has successfully supervised Undergraduates, Masters and PhD students to completion.
Dr. Lucy Njue has authored/co-authored over many high impact journal publications, book chapters and conference proceedings. She has also reviewed The Teachers’ Influence (2019) and Your Career Questions answered (2018) and Book on Abstracts Agro (2019) Conference books.
She is a life member of American society of Microbiology and Life member of Food Science and Technology platform of Kenya ( FoSTep- K). She has patented Efficacy of garlic extracts, their antimicrobial activity, safety and Shelf life KE/P/2020/3406. She is involved in PhD and Masters Curriculum Review and Student Mentorship
She is a recipient of NaCOSTI grants from the Kenyan Government. She is the Chairperson for the Association of Green Champions,, backing the Government on food safety and Security.
She is a regular volunteer for activities that promote the food science and technology profession. She has steered signing of Memorandum of Underrating (MOU) between University of Nairobi and Nairobi Technical Training Institute. Kenya Forest Research Institute and Association of Green Champions.

Dr. ir. Honfoga Barthelemy

Dr. ir. Honfoga, Barthelemy G. is an agricultural economist and Assistant Professor at the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin), with expertise in agricultural marketing, food security, policy analysis, business development and project management. He is currently head of the agribusiness research group in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences, University of Abomey-Calavi. He holds a PhD degree in economics and business from the Center for Development Studies, University of Groningen (Netherlands), and an “Ingénieur” degree in agricultural economics, University of Abomey-Calavi. He has more than 30 years of experience as professional of agricultural research and development. His work has mainly focused on agricultural marketing and value chain analysis. He investigated fertilizer markets in the cotton sub-sector’s institutional settings, as well as the food security and food economy in West Africa, and discussed the environmental et economic sustainability of cotton-based crop production systems. He occupied permanent positions at the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC, Muscle Shoals, United States), the International Coalition for Access to Land (ILC, Rome, Italy and KLA, Nakuru, Kenya), the Foundation for Sustainable Food Security in Central West Africa (SADAOC, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso), and carried out consultations for several international organizations (AERC, AGRA, FAO, FANRPAN, FARA, ECOWAS, UEMOA, CILSS, Michigan State University, SNV, ICCO, Fairtrade Foundation, SAFISANA, etc.). He has published his research works in renowned international journals.
