PROFILE: Prof. Kiiyukia is the Chairman of Biorisk Management Association of Kenya (BMAK) since 2013. He holds a Ph.D in Microbiology (food safety) from Hiroshima University Japan 1993, a M.Sc. Microbiology (food safety) Hiroshima University Japan 1990, a postgraduate Certificate in Food sanitation and hygiene, Hiroshima University Japan 1984 and a B. Sc. Botany-Biochemistry (University of Nairobi) 1980. He is a member of Environmental Institute of Kenya, Microbiology Society of Kenya, American Society for Microbiology, National Codex Elimentarious Committee – Kenya 2005-2017, New York Academy of Sciences 1995-2000 and a patron of workplace safety professionals of Kenya (WSPAK). He worked at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in the Fisheries Department as fisheries officer in-charge of Western Province. Since 1981 to 2014, Prof. Kiiyukia was a dedicated lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in the department of Food Science/Public Health Department. He was head department of medical microbiology at Mount Kenya University from 2014 to 2016 as associate professor and in 2019 – up to date, he is adjunct professor at United States International University. Prof Kiiyukia is a member of the research consortium on the on-going Global monitoring of antimicrobial resistance based on metagenomics analyses of urban sewage.
