Dr. Silas Obukosia
Dr. Silas Obukosia currently works as Principal Programme Officer in AUDA-NEPAD Nairobi Office in the African Biosafety Network of Expertise (ABNE) Programme. He is involved as lead in AUDA-NEPAD biosafety activities in Kenya and Zambia and also conducts capacity enhancement in biosafety in other Africa Union Members States. Prior to that he worked as office Business Manager and office coordinator of AUDA-NEPAD Kampala, Uganda node. Prior to joining ABNE, he worked with Africa Harvest Biotechnology Foundation International as Director of Regulatory Affairs. Previously, he was the Biotechnology Advisor for United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to its Kenya Biotechnology Program encompassing Research, Biosafety and Communications. He also worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi where he taught courses in biotechnology and molecular Biology. He holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics from Pennsylvania State University USA and Master in Genetic and Plant Breeding from the University of Nairobi. Obukosia has published several papers in both scientific refereed journals and proceedings and published three training manuals in field of biotechnology. Three recent publications include - (i) The Value-Chain of cotton industry in Kenya focusing on product stewardship for timely provision of certified quality Hybrid Bt cotton seeds to farmers ; (ii) Commercial Release of Genetically Modified Crops in Africa- Interface between Biosafety Regulatory Systems and Varietal Release Systems; (iii) Regulatory Options of New Breeding Techniques and Biosafety Regulatory Options among Selected Countries. Together with AUDA-NEPAD team provided technical input in just published - Genome Editing Guidance Document for Africa.

Dr. Damiano Cavallini

Dr. Damiano Cavallini is an accomplished individual with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Veterinary Science and a Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine, both from the University of Bologna in Italy. He has also successfully completed the Residency Programme of the European College of Veterinary Comparative Nutrition (Farm Animal Track) at the University of Turin in Italy. His professional journey includes roles as a Research Fellow in Animal Nutrition and Feeding at the University of Bologna and the University of Teramo. Currently, he holds the position of Junior Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna and serves as a Contract Professor at the University of Teramo. Dr. Cavallini is an active member of various development-oriented societies, including the European Society of Comparative Veterinary Nutrition, the Italian Animal Science Society, and the Association of Researchers in Food and Nutrition. Beyond his academic achievements, Damiano is dedicated to teaching and actively contributes to a range of courses. His research interests are diverse, covering topics such as animal nutrition, precision livestock farming, sustainable animal production, veterinary toxicology, feed and food quality, as well as statistical modeling. Furthermore, he plays an important role as a reviewer for several Scopus-indexed journals. His academic contributions are substantial, with over 39 peer-reviewed papers published, an H-index of 15, and more than 500 citations.

Prof. Tatien Masharabu

Prof. Tatien Masharabu is the Permanent Executive Secretary for the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) - Republic of Burundi and Professor at the University of Burundi, Biology Department. He started an academic career at the University of Burundi in October 2003, rose through the ranks to Senior Lecturer in October 2011, to Associate Professor in January 2016, and to Full Professor in April 2020. He has been involved in several multidisciplinary collaborative research and innovation projects over the last ten years. He is involved in disseminating results to wider audiences and in science outreach. He holds a sound Research-Development (RD) & Innovation management experience. He is a Member of the Governing Board of the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO). Prof. Masharabu also received a number of certificates of merit and recognition amongst them a Certificate of appreciation in recognition of his professional, dedication, commitment and integrity during his tenure as EALAN (Eastern Africa Land Administration Network) Chairman during the period 2019-2023, and a Diploma in Innovation, Transformation and Resilience for sustainable development from Lund University, Sweden (2023). Prof. Masharabu holds a doctorate degree in Science from the Interfaculty School of Bioengineering, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium (2011), a Master’s degree in Life Sciences (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, 2007), a Master’s degree in Applied Biology (University of Burundi, Burundi, 2004), a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences (University of Burundi, Burundi, 2002).
He has, so far, authored and co-authored several scientific papers in peer-reviewed as well in Conference proceedings in the fields of Botany, Landscape Ecology, Climate change and Biodiversity conservation, Land and Natural Resources Administration, and STI outlook.
