[1] Dr. Sawudatu Zakariah-Akoto [Ghana] is a social scientist currently working with Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana. Her research focuses on maternal, infant and child nutrition, the food system and food environment and socio-cultural drivers of women’s and children’s diets. She is currently working on projects to improve adolescent girls’ dietary intake and overall health outcomes, promote lifestyle interventions including diets and physical activities in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases, improve hormonal balance among adolescent girls through improved dietary practices as well as working through faith-based centres to scale-up diabetes and hypertension screening in northern Ghana.

Her research focuses on developing a framework to monitor fisheries activities in Namibia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). She was selected for a training program on exploration for polymetallic nodules by the International Seabed Authority (ISA) and Deep Ocean Resources Development (DORD) in 2022, allowing her to deepen her knowledge and expertise in marine resource management.
