Dr. Paul Ochieng Tana

Dr. Paul Tana is a social scientist with the Kenya Agricultural and Livetock Research Organization (KALRO), in Nairobi, KENYA. The organization is responsible for the promotion of sound agricultural research, technology generation and dissemination to ensure food security through improved productivity and environmental conservation. Currently. Dr. Tana is the head of socioeconomics department and applied statistics at KALRO Horticultural Research Centre, Kibos. He has 40 years of research experience at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization. He doubles as a part time lecturer in several universities where he teaches communication skills, monitoring and evaluation, programme planning and implementation, principles of agricultural extension and statistics. He earned his PhD in Agricultural and Rural Innovation Studies at Egerton University, Njoro Kenya, MSc in Agricultural Extension, BSc in Agricultural Economics and Diploma in Agriculture and Food marketing from the same University, Certificate in Bio-energy and Climate Change from Edinburgh Universty in Scotland and a Certificate in General Agriculture from Bukura Agricultural College in Kenya. His research interests include dissemination of research technologies, monitoring and evaluation of disseminated technologies, technology, adoption studies, impact assessment of disseminated technologies, agricultural marketing and empowerment of the vulnerable and marginalized smallholder farmers for improved livelihoods and resilience using climate-smart agriculture technologies. Dr. Tana has published papers in refereed Journals and has won competitive research funds by responding to such calls with the latest call by Cornell University under Innovation Lab for Crop Improvement (ILCI) and funded by USAID.

Dr. Mesfin Kebede Gessese

Dr. Mesfin Kebede Gessese is a plant breeder and molecular geneticist working at Wolaita Sodo University, department of plant sciences at an academic position of Associate Professor. Wolaita Sodo University is one of the public universities of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), based in Southern Ethiopian region. Dr. Gessese started his career as farm manager in a public cotton farm enterprise for one year and then joined the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research, where he served as a researcher in the area of agronomy and crop improvement research activities including sub-center managerial positions for over 10 years. He then moved to the ministry of agriculture of The FDRE government headquarters in Addis Ababa and served as a senior plant breeder in the crop varieties release and registration section of the animal and plant health inspection service directorate for about 2 years. In November 2011 he joined Wolaita Sodo University as lecturer and researcher in crop improvement section of the department of plant sciences and serving the university at different capacities. Dr. Mesfin obtained his B.Sc degree in plant science and MSc degree in Plant breeding from Haramaya University, Ethiopia. In January 2013 he won the most prestigious PhD scholarship award in agriculture “The Australian Awards for Africa” to pursue his tertiary degree study in agriculture at The University of Sydney, Australia. After completing his PhD study, he immediately returned to his home country and resumed his academic researcher career in April 2017 as Assistant Professor and researcher at the department of plant sciences, Wolaita Sodo University Ethiopia. Recently since 2023 he was promoted to the position of Associate Professorship owing to his research, academic, professional and community service delivered to his university and the community. Dr. Mesfin Kebede has published several papers in his area of specialization.

Dr. Anyango Loyce Joyce

Dr. Anyango Loyce Joyce is a nutritionist and lecturer at The Technical University of Kenya, where she currently serves at the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Holding a PhD. in Nutritional Sciences, she blends her expertise in research with a practical approach to teaching and advising on healthy eating habits. She is actively involved in community outreach and nutrition counselling. She believes in empowering individuals to make informed choices about their health and works closely with clients to develop personalized nutrition plans.. With a deep commitment to advancing the field of nutrition, Dr. Anyango remains actively involved in research, regularly contributing to academic journals and presenting at conferences. She earned her PhD in Nutritional Science at Technical University of Kenya, and her MSc in Community Nutrition at Maseno University, Kenya. Her areas of expertise include dietary interventions for chronic disease management, nutrition education and behaviour change, maternal and child nutrition, and nutrition and mental health.

Mr. Zadok Maingi

Mr. Zadok Maingi holds a Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition and BSc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics both from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. He currently serves as a clinical nutritionist at South Eastern Kenya University. Mr. Maingi is a Member of the Kenya Nutritionists & Dieticians Institute (KNDI), the national regulatory authority for Nutrition and Dietetics profession training and practice. He is also a member of the International Academy of Nutrition Educators (IANE). He has a great passion for research and community service. His research interests include maternal and young child nutrition, food security, agrinutrition, food systems and climate change. Mr. Maingi is a certified Publons Peer Reviewer academy graduate, has served as a junior journal reviewer for AJFAND since 2019 and also serves as a reviewer for the African Journal of Bioethics. He has previously served as a secretariat member of the Institutional Ethics Review Committee (IERC) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. Through the mentorship of his academic supervisors and the AJFAND editorial team, Mr. Maingi has grown from a AJFAND junior journal reviewer and now joins the team of senior reviewers. He looks forward to continuous positive engagement with AJFAND as a senior reviewer.
