He holds a PhD in Ethnobotany and Plant Systematics from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research focus is on plants-people relationships, ethnobotany, phytochemical and pharmacological properties of plant species. He also conducts research on plant ecology, plant systematics, biodiversity conservation and ethnobiology, that is, local environmental knowledge (LEK) systems, folk perceptions, uses and management of wild and cultivated plants.
