Instructions for Reviewers
Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Peer Review
Reviewers for AJFAND are expected to prepare peer review reports based on their own independent scholarly expertise and critical judgment.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI)–assisted tools (e.g., large language models or automated text generators) to generate, draft, or substantially compose peer review reports is strictly prohibited.
Reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, tables, figures, supplementary materials, or any portion thereof to AI platforms or third-party tools. Manuscripts under review are confidential documents, and uploading them to AI systems constitutes a breach of confidentiality. Such use may also result in unpublished material being incorporated into external AI databases, potentially containing inaccuracies or misinterpretations.
Limited use of AI tools is permitted only for language refinement, such as improving grammar, spelling, or clarity, provided that:
- The intellectual content, analysis, and judgments of the review are entirely the reviewer’s own; and
- No confidential manuscript content is shared with AI systems.
AI tools must not be used to:
- Generate review text or editorial recommendations
- Evaluate scientific merit, methodology, or data
- Summarize manuscripts for review purposes
- Create or verify references
Where the editorial team has reasonable grounds to believe that a review has been generated using AI, AJFAND reserves the right to:
- Decline formal acknowledgment of the review
- Exclude the reviewer from future reviewing for the journal
- Take further action in accordance with journal and publisher policies
By accepting an invitation to review for AJFAND, reviewers agree to abide by this policy and to uphold the ethical standards of confidentiality, integrity, and scholarly responsibility expected scholarly associations.
Instructions for Authors
Declaration of generative AI in scientific writing: Authors are encouraged to use AI and LLMs in their writing and manuscript preparation with transparency and full responsibility. They should not list AI or AI-assisted technologies as authors or co-authors, nor cite AI as an author. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans. Authors must ensure that any AI-generated content is reviewed and edited by them to check for accuracy, integrity, and correctness.
